Day 3: Jesus is Our Bridegroom

40 DAYS OF DEVOTION

WHO IS HE?

He is Our Bridegroom – “He who has the bride is the bridegroom. But the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Jesus said to them, ‘Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.’ Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her, that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her with washing by the word, that He might present to Himself, His bride, the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle, but that she should be holy and blameless. This mystery of marriage is great, but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church”  (Jn 3:29, Mt 9:15, Eph 5:25, 26, 27, 32).

WHO ARE WE?

We are His Bride –Come here, I shall show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb. The kingdom of heaven is comparable with ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five were foolish and five were wise. While the five were going away to purchase more oil, the bridegroom came. Those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast and the door was shut. Later the other virgins also came, but He answered, ‘I do not know you.’ Be on the alert then, for you do not know the hour or the day. Let us rejoice and be glad and give glory to Him, for the marriage of the Lamb has come. His bride has made herself ready. It was given to her to clothe herself in fine linen, bright and clean. The fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.” (Rev 21:9, 19:7, 8).
