40 DAYS OF DEVOTION
HE IS OUR FOCUS – Secure undistracted devotion to the Lord. Peter walked on water… until he took his eyes off the Lord. Mary sat at Jesus’ feet but “Martha was distracted with all her preparations.” “David the king went in and sat before the Lord,” until he focused on Bathsheba. Paul called the Corinthian Christians to “secure undistracted devotion to the Lord” because they lived in a culture of rampant sexual immorality. He had to remind them that “neither fornicators, nor idolaters, not adulterers, not effeminate, nor homosexuals shall inherit the kingdom of God.”
WE ARE FIXED ON HIM – Today in America, we live in a pornified society. But Paul said, “I will not be mastered by anything.” How do we do that? “Let us lay aside the sin which so easily entangles us and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, FIXING OUR EYES ON JESUS.” (Mt 14:29-30, Lk 10:39-40, 2 Sam 7:18, 11:2, 1 Cor 7:35, 6:9-10, 6:12, Heb 12:1-2).
