Life is full of distractions. Paul, in 1 Cor 7:35 encourages every believer to “secure undistracted devotion to the Lord.” How do we do that? For the next 40 days we invite you to consider “Who is He?” and “Who are We?” By the time we are done, it is our prayer that YOU will have secured an undistracted devotion to the Lord Jesus!
When we do our surveys on a college campus or in a marketplace, we like to ask, “In your opinion, who is Jesus?” Most answer confidently, but their answers are vague, uniformed and even weird. A recent study by Barna reports that while 80% of Americans claim they know Him, upon further questioning, the actual number is closer to 3%.
Jesus once discussed this crucial question with His disciples.
”Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He began asking His disciples, saying, ‘Who do people say the Son of Man is?’ They said ‘Some say John the Baptist and others, Elijah, still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’ Simon Peter answered and said, ‘You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.’ Jesus answered and said to him, ‘Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven’” (Mt 16:13-17).
What do you think? Who do YOU say that Jesus is? How well do you know Him? Are you distracted by our crazy world? The Bible encourages us to “secure undistracted devotion to the Lord” (1 Cor 7:35). Following is the first of 40 Days of Devotion. Each devotion will focus on a name or description of Jesus. Every day will answer two questions: “Who is He?” and “Who are We?” You will see that each devotional is almost pure Scripture.
Once we know who He is, we learn who we are “in Him.” I pray your love and devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ will be mightily strengthened by the Holy Spirit as you press in to know the Lord Jesus!
